Anyone know how to make home made wine?
I am on a mission, to make homemade wine. I made it many years ago with a bottle and a balloon, wasn't the tastiest thing I ever had, but certainly had the effect I was looking for.
Now I'm on a mission to create something far more delicious
My husband's doctor has told him he should drink two glasses of wine a day, so we intend to develop a couple of recipes.
Have you ever made homemad wine?
Do I need to purchase a kit?
Is regular yeast good or does it need to be a special type of yeast?
What about fermentation, is it better to use a glass jar, or something where the uv rays can't get through?
Any advise would be appreciated.
Any web sites that you know of that sell wine making kits and ingredients.
What would be your favorite flavor?

My ex & my son made wine back in the late 90's when we were still married. My son worked at two wineries in northeastern Ohio, some years ago. He was the "Cellar Master" which means he knew how to make wine from step one. You need to purchase a book & read up on how it's done. The yeast that goes into wine is not the kind that you would use for bread making. It's tan in color. You will need to buy wine bottles to put the wine in when it's ready to be bottled. You may be able to buy them at a winery. The wineries where my son worked, offered the grape juice for sale for the do it yourself wine makers. Your best bet is to visit your local winery & ask questions. Making wine is a long process so read up on how to do it & proceed only when you feel that you know exactly what to do. Make a small batch to start out with & if all turns out well, you can increase it the next time around. I personally like sweet wine. Dry wine has no sugar & not what I ever drink. Good luck & Salute.

Cheryl,
My grandfather used to make home made wine in the basement. I used to help with pressing the grapes through the cheesecloth and pretended to "get drunk" on the grape juice. Beyond that, I haven't.
BUT........ I did find a website for you. BTW, if you distill wine, you get brandy.
GOOD luck

I bought a kit in the early 70's, it took a long time to make and they had raisins in the kits.
I went to a neighbors house for Christmas, they were Croatian and made their own wine! Well, one glass of this wine and I had a stupid look on my face and it froze in that stupid grin, next glass of wine, my feet disappeared! I had to scoot back to my apartments sliding my back against the wall so I could walk....never homemade wine for me again!
