Default is it safe to serve wine in a silver pitcher?

I don't know much about my pitcher, but its very old, and its silver on copper. Is it safe to serve wine out of it?
I don't know much about my pitcher, but its very old, and its silver on copper. Is it safe to serve wine out of it? Can you explain any special techniques (such as dropping salt and a penny in?) in more detail? Thanks!
