Default 2005 Far Niente Chardonnay - Should I keep this bottle for a while before...

...drinking or drink it now? I'm not a wine person, but received a bottle as a gift. I went on-line and did a little research. What I could find was that people are drinking older vintages of this wine now.
I DO NOT have idea wine storage conditions. I live in an upstairs apartment that gets very warm in the summer and really don't have any place to store the wine (except in my desk at work).
I'd appreciate suggestions from oenophiles (if you have to ask what that means, you shouldn't be answering this question), as to when would be the best time to open this wine.
Thanks for any valid help you can offer.
