Default Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon wine for less than $25 a bottle—what do you recommend?

My favorite wine is Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. I want to branch out from Napa Valley Cabs and experience some good Sonoma Cabs. So that you understand my taste, the following are my favorite Napa Valley Cabs under $30 a bottle: Clos Du Val, Charles Krug, Markham, and Napa Cellars. The one Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon that I tried and liked was an ’02 St. Francis. That bottle motivated me to taste other Sonoma Cabs.

If you can find a bottle from 2001 that has been stored well (in a cool or dark place), that's a good place to begin.

Otherwise, Sonoma cabernets are generally not as awesome as their Napa cousins. Cline has incredible Zins, Muscatels and Mouvedres. And their ancient vines.

It's hit and miss on the rest. Valley of the Moon is my choice of the Sonoma wineries.

Geyser Peak (Sonoma Cab made by Aussies!),
Dry Creek
Ravenswood (they make many Cabs, Sonoma is yummy)
Simi can be wonderful
I dig the afore-mentioned Ch.St. Jean, Rodney Strong and Sebastiani wines as well.

While you're at it try some outstanding Sonoma Zinfandel!
