what's the difference between the two?

I prefer syrahs because they tend to be more full-bodied and jammy. I have tried a few higher end merlots that were great. Merlots tend to be more mellow, so if you're not used to drinking red wine, merlot may be a good start.

I dunno...I like merlots. I like zinfindales too. Never tasted syrah.
