Default what other type of meat can I use, instead of beef tenderloin, for the same recipe:

w/ shallots & syrah? Cannot afford to spend about $50 for 1 1/2 lb of beef tenderloin...

You can use any meat but you have to cook it longer to get the tenderness.

How about a pork loin, they run about 1.99 per pound, I would just supplement the flavoring with some dried cherries and or frozen blackberries and reduce till you have a thick sauce.
I dont believe the syrah would fight with the berries
